Welcome to the Small Acts of Community challenge!

We don’t want this to be hard, or one more thing to add to your already full plate. It should give to you as much as you give to it. So we’re going to keep it simple:

Step 1.

Read the pledge

Does it resonate with you? If it does, we invite you to sign it and live it. Perfection isn’t the goal here, we are just committing to try.

Community Pledge

We value our community spaces and treat them with care.

We practice kindness, even when we disagree.

We choose love, even when it’s not easy.

We value connection, withholding judgment and seeking understanding.

Over the next two weeks, commit to intentionally finding and doing ten small acts of community. Will ten acts change everything? Maybe…or it might just start a new and wonderful habit.

Need some Small Acts of Community inspiration? We got you.

  1. Next time you are out for a walk, bring a bag and gloves to pick up any garbage you might see on the way.

  2. See someone struggling to carry something? Offer to help if you are able.

  3. In a tense interaction, try taking a breath and responding with kindness instead. We never know what they might be struggling with and that kindness could turn their day around.

  4. Practice patience when waiting to be served.

  5. When you disagree with someone, keep your language polite and respectful—even when you aren’t feeling it.

  6. Withhold judgment. It might pop up anyway, that’s normal, but when it does ask yourself what you really know about the person you're judging—judgment is often based on superficial information, or partial facts.

  7. Thank someone for their work, let them know it’s appreciated.

  8. Strike up a friendly conversation with someone in line.

  9. Hold the door for someone, and if you get stuck holding the door for several people, consider it extra points.

  10. In a public space? Put your screens away for 5-10 minutes and really observe the people and place around you. Practice gratitude for this space and the community you live in.

This list is just to get you started, use the pledge as your guide and find the acts that work for you.
